General Information

What time do the doors open?

So that you can enjoy the stunning view and fun festival atmosphere at Barefoot Cinema, we will be opening our doors at 6.00pm each night and we encourage all of you to get there early and soak up the serenity – as our good ol’ friend Darryl Kerrigan would say. Early birds who venture down will be able to enjoy Aperitivo Hour when they purchase any drink from the Barefoot Bar between 6pm and 7pm. The film will start as the sun dips into the ocean which during the summer period will be at approximately 9pm at Portsea, 8.45pm at Mount Martha and 8.30pm at Rippon Lea Estate.

What should I wear?

Barefoot Cinema is an all-weather outdoor event and even though it will be the middle of summer, we suggest you to come prepared and bring another layer and a blanket to chuck on at night when it starts to cool down because it does get a bit chilly when the sun sets. We are in Victoria after all and we know the weather can’t be trusted!

If there is a chance of rain, make sure you come prepared, including appropriate footwear, as the event will still go ahead in most conditions. Umbrellas can’t be used while you’re watching the film (unless you’re right up the back), but feel free to bring them along and use them before the film starts if there are likely to be some showers around.

Are children welcome to Barefoot Cinema?

Of course, at appropriately rated films. As this is a fully licensed event, children under the age of 18 years old will only be permitted if accompanied by a responsible adult. Kids under the age of 5 can attend for free and kids between the age of 5 and 15 can enter with a discounted Kids ticket. The films’ ratings are stated on the What’s On page and we suggest you watch the trailer to help decide if the film is appropriate for your children.

Can I bring my dog to Barefoot Cinema?

Unfortunately, no dogs or pets will be allowed into any of our venues as the site managers won’t allow. While we love furry friends as much as anyone, you will unfortunately have to take any dogs or pets home before coming back to the event if you do accidentally bring your dog along.

Can I bring my camera?

Absolutely! Please feel free to use your phone camera or personal camera to take as many photos as you like and share them with us on social media at our Facebook page or Instagram @barefoot_cinema and use the hashtags #barefootcinema #gobarefootthissummer. However, no professional cameras or audio equipment used with recording purposes are permitted on site. Recording is strictly prohibited.

Is this a wheelchair accessible event?

Disabled parking is available free of charge at the event sites. While Barefoot Cinema is an outdoor event held mainly on grass, there is some relatively flat areas where any guests in wheelchairs can comfortably sit and watch the films.

If you or any other guest requires wheelchair access to any of our venues, please let us know in advance and that way we’ll make sure one of the Barefoot Crew looks after your parking and sitting location. You can contact us at info@barefootcinema.com.au

Can I smoke at the event?

Barefoot Cinema is largely a smoke-free area, but there is a designated smoking area for those of you who smoke. Please see one of the Barefoot crew members if you are unable to find the designated smoking area.

Food & Drinks

Is there food and drink available at Barefoot Cinema?

There sure is. We suggest that you arrive early to make the most of this experience and there will be plenty of food and drink options to keep you going while you’re there. You’re also more than welcome to bring your own food and drinks (excluding alcohol and glass) and have a bit of a picnic if you so choose.

Our Candy Bar will be full of the goodies and treats that we all love to eat at the cinema. We have snacks, refreshing juices and soft drinks and if you’re more of a sweet tooth, you can find delicious chocolates and lollies as well as delicious popcorn and choc tops.

We will also have at least one food truck at every session serving delicious food throughout the summer season with various food options that are sure to leave you wanting more.

Aperitivo Hour runs from 6-7pm and features a spread of cheese, dips, olives and so much more for those who purchase any drink from the Barefoot Bar during this time.

At the Barefoot Bar, we will be serving icy cold beers from our friends at Gage Roads Brewing Co, premium local wines from Quealy Wines and refreshing Aperol Spritz. We will also have a soft drinks and other non-alcoholic drinks.

Can I BYO?

No sorry. Barefoot Cinema is a fully licensed event and with such great options available at the Barefoot Bar, you definitely won’t be thirsty!

Getting to Barefoot Cinema

What is the parking situation?

Parking at Barefoot Cinema

Portsea: parking at Barefoot Cinema Portsea is strictly limited to 70 cars and car parking tickets must be pre-purchased online for $5 per car. You will be refused entry if the car park is full and you do not have a pre-purchased ticket. More information on how to get there can be found here.

Mount Martha: there will be limited parking available The Briars and we suggest that guests pre-purchase parking online for $5 per car. You will be refused entry if the car park is full and you do not have a pre-purchased ticket. More information on how to get there can be found here.

Rippon Lea Estate: There is no parking on site at Rippon Lea Estate. However, there is parking available locally and the easiest way to get to Rippon Lea Estate is by train, bus, taxi or Uber. More information on how to get there can be found here.

Where are the exact locations for Barefoot Cinema?

This year we have three amazing venues for Barefoot Cinema.

Portsea: Barefoot Cinema Portsea is located at the Commanding Officer’s House in Point Nepean National Park, Portsea. More information about the venue and how to get there can be found here.

Mount Martha: Barefoot Cinema Mount Martha is located at The Briars which is at 450 Nepean Highway, Mount Martha.

Rippon Lea Estate: Barefoot Cinema Rippon Lea Estate is located at Rippon Lea Estate Mansion & Gardens which is at 192 Hotham Street, Elsternwick.

Tickets

What happens if the event is cancelled?

Barefoot Cinema is an all-weather outdoor event and we will go ahead with the event in most weather conditions, including in the event of light or intermittent rain or during weather conditions which patrons may consider to be unsatisfactory.

However, if the event is cancelled, we will contact and inform all ticket holders as soon as possible and:

subject to availability, tickets for the cancelled session will be transferable for another session during the current season; or
if there are no tickets available for the remaining sessions of the current season, the ticket holder will be entitled to a refund of the ticket price (excluding any booking or payment processing fees).

What if I have lost or can’t find my tickets?

Your tickets would have been emailed to you when you purchased them online so make sure you check there first. If you’re still unable to find your tickets, get in contact with us on info@barefootcinema.com.au and let us know the name and email address you used when booking your tickets, and what session you were booked in for.

Do I need to print my tickets or can I show them on my phone?

You can do either. To make it as convenient as possible for you, we’re happy to scan your tickets in hardcopy or on your phone. Just make sure you have your barcode ready (and legible) when you arrive.

What is a Jalna VIP Lounge upgrade?

A Jalna VIP Lounge upgrade is the perfect way to turn your general admission Adult or Kids ticket into the ultimate Barefoot Cinema experience.

With a Jalna VIP Lounge upgrade, you will get the VIP treatment that you truly deserve, including a premium reclining seat or beanbag, prime viewing position and a dedicated Barefoot butler who will make sure you never go hungry or thirsty, without having to move a muscle.

Our Jalna VIP Lounge upgrade also includes a free beer from our friends at Gage Roads Brewing Co or a glass of wine from Quealy, a free bag of popcorn and complementary blanket hire on the night to make sure you get your special night off to the perfect start.

Please note that the Jalna VIP Lounge upgrade is an add on on your general admission ticket so for it to be valid you must have a Adult, Kids or Family Ticket plus the VIP upgrade. The upgrades are per ticket so for example if you have 2 x GA adult tickets you’ll need 2 x Jalna VIP Lounge upgrades or if you have 1 x Family Ticket, you’ll need 4 x Jalna VIP Lounge upgrades.

How much do tickets cost?

Note: The above ticket prices don’t include booking and payment processing fees.

* The Jalna VIP Lounge upgrade is only valid with an Adult, Kids or Family ticket.

** This only applies for Portsea and Mount Martha. All car parking tickets must be pre-purchased. Spaces are strictly limited and cars will be refused entry without a pre-purchased ticket.

Where can we buy tickets for Barefoot Cinema?

The best way to buy tickets is online from our What’s On or Film pages on our website. Once you’re there you will be able to scroll through our films and book tickets directly through our website.

You can also buy tickets on any event night from our Barefoot Box Office, but only if the session is not sold out prior. To avoid any disappointment, we suggest that you get in quick and buy your tickets online.
